Theme:  Day at the Lake

Members and their families are encouraged to arrive by boat and tie up/raft-off in the horseshoe for the day.  Dinghies, pontoons and small boats are encouraged.  We will arrange for a reserved section for smaller boats.  We are especially encouraging any members who are keeping their boats at McKinley (or other locations) to come spend the day at the club.

  • Cardboard Boat Race
  • Lawn games and contests
  • Water Balloon Fight (Squirt guns are strongly encouraged)
  • Snowcones (adult and child friendly flavors)
  • Cotton Candy
  • Food will be available prepared by the Powerboaters Grill Team
  • Outdoor movie on the big screen (Pirates of the Caribbean:  At Worlds End)

Schedule:

Noon – 2:00 PM:  Cardboard boat teams assemble and build – we will provide building materials.  You will have 2 hours to build a boat to attempt to get your team from shore, around a mark and back to shore.  There will be prizes!

2:00 PM:  Boat Races – South Side of Club boat launch area

3:00 PM:  Live Music, Lawn Games, Contests – adult and children’s teams.  Prizes will be awarded

5:00 – 8:00 PM:  Dinner served by the Powerboat Grill Team (Hamburgers, Hot dogs, brats, chips, etc.)  Complimentary draft beer provided by the Powerboaters and Entertainment Committees while it lasts.

8:30 PM – close:  Movie:  Pirates of the Caribbean At Worlds End

Social Activities

PartyThe restaurant is open every Friday for dinner.  

The Entertainment Committee hosts various parties, including:

  • Jazz Night
  • Mardi Gras
  • Kentucky Derby
  • Review of the Fleet
  • Corn Roast
  • Oktoberfest
  • New Year's Eve

and many other, less formal, events throughout the year.

Sailing and Racing

SailboatsIf you are interested in sailing, and more specifically racing, there are ample opportunities to join one of our racing fleets, or to crew on one of the boats in those fleets.  The women's fleet races on Mondays, small boats race on Tuesdays.  Big boats race on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  And the double handed fleet races on Fridays.

Powerboating

PowerboatOur power boaters are active fishermen.  An annual fishing contest is held in July.  

In addition, our power boaters host a number of events, usually on Thursdays as well as many weekends.

Juniors

KaszubeCupSSYC offers sailing lessons and a year-round program for children ages 8 - 18.  We offer a six-week series of lessons in Opti's, 420's and Lasers.  Our juniors attend a number of regattas throughout the summer, and host one of thelargest regattas on Lake Michigan, the Kaszube Cup.
