By Andrew Gawin, PHRF Fleet Captain

Just for the record, Race Committee doesn't really get any time off during the winter. Just weeks after the Winner's Dinner we are working the race schedule for the next year. Racing for the 2015 season begins with the Skelding on May 30 and ends in early September with the Grudge Race. We've moved the Wind Point Race back to Saturday, depriving dads of their excuse for being out of the house on Father's Day.

The complete schedule, for all the fleets, is available on the website. Click on the Fleets menu and select Race Schedule. We also have a Google Calendar setup for PHRF. If you want the URL so that you can add it to your calendar send me an email at and I'll get it to you. The Notice of Race is being finalized and should be available in a few weeks.

Don't expect any major changes from past years. It's just difficult to get all the right people from two yacht clubs together to finalize the details. We have a PHRF Fleet meeting scheduled for April 22 - one week following the SS/SSS meeting. This is the best opportunity for new ideas and discussions before we head into the new season. Hope to see you there.

To make certain that you receive fleet-related emails add yourself to the mailing list. It's on the homepage of the SSYC website. Enter your name, email, and select which lists you want to join. Members of your crew can join too; they don't need to be club members. It's that time of year for another call for volunteers for Race Committee. To make racing possible takes a lot of volunteers. If you or somebody you know would be interested in learning more about helping out, contact Rick Trisco or me.

We're planning a workshop for volunteers in April. Other than being a good listener and being able to do some light work on a boat, you don't need any special skills or knowledge. Everyone I've ever tricked into volunteering has found that it taught them a lot about what is going on while racing (although they are also disappointed that we don't open the bar once we start the fleet).

That's it for this month. More updates in the next Compass, and watch for relevant emails. The Race Committee is (more or less) on top of things at this point. Now, if we can just figure how to rid the lake of fog...

You can learn more about the various racing fleets by clicking here.  And the racing schedule (for all fleets) is available here.

Powerboating

PowerboatOur power boaters are active fishermen.  An annual fishing contest is held in July.

In addition, our power boaters host a number of events, usually on Thursdays as well as many weekends.
