Having a Ball

By George Graubner, Power Boaters' Fleet Chairman

Once again this year, all committee chairs held a meeting Dec. 9 with Karen and Pat to discuss event dates for the coming year. The meeting allowed us to create our own schedule without conflicting with other SSYC events.

Power boaters' first-quarter 2015 upcoming events are as follows:

•  Super Bowl Party Feb. 1

• Valentine’s Day Dinner (NEW) February 14

Gambling Getaway Weekend March 21 - 22

Once again we will have pre-Super Bowl Festivities and chances to win some great prizes . So plan on coming early and staying late.

Our Valentine’s Day Dinner, which is new this year, is on a Saturday and will feature a special menu and dancing to the music of SWAY. We’ve had the opportunity to listen to them perform at a function, and they are good! Great music!

The usual Power Boater’s Brunch will be changed to another date in order to treat our Valentine’s to a special evening at the club. Our Gambling Getaway sign-up sheets are at the front desk, so grab one and join in this fun weekend. Dave Tucholka, along with Ken and Sandy Dziubek always plan a fun filled weekend for us at the Oneida Casino!

The cost of $100/person includes our round-trip luxury coach to Green Bay, Room at the Radisson, Welcome Party at Purcell’s Lounge and the famous Hospitality Suite Party. Of course beverages and snacks will be supplied on the way and on our return trip. Also, on our return, we usually have a movie to watch! Club Members need to submit their reservations along with payment by February 1. After that date, if we don’t fill it with members, it will be open to your friends.

Other events this spring will include the Power Boaters' Wine tasting, SSYC/LMYA open house, Power Boaters' Thursdays, Discovery World Cruises and a Racine Cruise. We’re looking at trying to come up with other types of events for the Power Boaters Thursdays, so if you have a theme, or an idea, e-mail me at or call me at 414-791-8439. Although, we’d love to see you on the 14th!

I want to encourage our members to get involved in our power boaters' planning and activities. You don’t need to be a power boater to be involved and participate in our activities. ALL ARE WELCOME! We’ve had good participation this past year from not only our power boaters, but our social members and even some of the sail boaters. So, please do come and have fun … it’s a great way to get to know everyone and develop good friendships!

Overall, the Power Boater’s will have over 20 events this coming boating season. Please look at the dates in the Compass for all of the power boaters' future events or our SSYC website. Hope to see you on the 14th.

You can learn more about the various racing fleets by clicking here.  And the racing schedule (for all fleets) is available here.

Powerboating

PowerboatOur power boaters are active fishermen.  An annual fishing contest is held in July.

In addition, our power boaters host a number of events, usually on Thursdays as well as many weekends.
