Artka George 2014I would like to thank everyone for the opportunity to represent the South Shore Yacht Club as their Commodore for a second term. With board members that are so dedicated and talented, we should be able to continue to move our club forward to make it the best Yacht Club in Wisconsin.

The Change of Watch was held on October 11th. A new slate of officers for South Shore Yacht Club was sworn-in by the ever popular Peter Rieske. This year we have returning officers who will start their second term and three new directors who will be starting their three year term. The officers and directors who were sworn-in will take office November 1st.

I will be returning as Commodore.  Ken Dziubek will be the Vice Commodore and Jerry Kedziora will be the Rear Commodore.  Rick Shoos will be the Financial Secretary and Jeremy Burns will be our Treasurer. Newly elected flag officer Luke Radomski will be Corresponding Secretary. The new directors are Vince Verhasselt, Jim Casper and Richard Olsen.

Congratulations to all and thank you for supporting the club by volunteering your time to help make our club better.

Three individuals will be leaving the Board at the end of the month.  They are Past Commodore Dave Wehnes, Tom Gale and Jerry Rakowski.

Dave Wehnes Past Commodore has served on the Board for the past twelve years. Dave has contributed a lot of his time and energy to help keep our club running effectively and efficiently. He continues to work on several key committees for the club.

Tom Gail has served on the Board for the past six years. He was the head of By-Laws, Membership and most recently the Entertainment Committee. He is one of the best emcee’s our club has ever had and he was definitely on his game when he emceed the Change of Watch.

Jerry Rakowski has served on the Board for the past ten years. He has always been the director for Waterfront Services. Jerry has taken on many tasks during his term. From building a piece of art from wood to changing an engine in the race committee boat. Jerry has dedicated a lot of his time and talent over the many years he has been a member.

I would like to thank Dave, Tom and Jerry for their dedication and hard work which they have demonstrated during their many years on the Board.

The Finance Committee is responsible for evaluating last year’s budget. According to our Treasurer we may be over our budget for 2014. How far over budget is yet to be determined until we get the year-end figures.  The budget process for 2015 will start the last week of October.

Even though we are at the end of the boating season we are not done having fun at our club. Please check out the SSYC web site for upcoming events.

I would like to give a big thanks to our Board Members, our staff and our members for helping make our club successful.

Thank you again for letting me represent our Club as Commodore for 2015.
