The Tenth Annual Fish On Fish Off fishing contest between South Shore Yacht Club and South Milwaukee Yacht Club was held on July 26, 2014. 21 boats registered to fish the tournament. South Shore Yacht Club had a total of 10 boats entered and South Milwaukee Yacht Club came in with 11 boats. I would like to thank everyone who participated in our annual event. If it was not for all of the volunteers from both of our clubs who donated their time, this event could not be run.
For the last month the fishing has been very slow. With cold water and the lack of concentrated fish it made the fishing conditions very tough for the contest. All of the boats left the dock at 4:30 am. and they returned by 12 pm. for the weigh-in.
After weighing the fish and enjoying a fantastic lunch, the final results were calculated.
1st Place- Captain Tom Hoffa on Higgins from SMYC with 189.0 points.
2nd Place- Captain Mike Gengler on Knot too Shabby from SMYC with 159.0 points.
3rd Place- Captain Sam Kreuger on Constant Chaos from SMYC with 140.0 points.
4th Place- Captain Warren Kruse on My Girl from SSYC with 125.56 points.
The biggest fish of the contest was a 17.4 lbs. Chinook salmon caught by Tom Hoffa on Higgins from South Milwaukee Yacht Club.
The biggest Lake Trout was 16.8 lbs. caught by Sam Kreuger on Constant Chaos SMYC. The biggest Rainbow Trout was 10.8 lbs. caught by George Artka on Freedom 3 from SSYC. The biggest Coho Salmon was 6.5 lbs. caught by Mike Schell on It’s All About Fish from SMYC. The biggest Chinook other than the big fish was 11.8 lbs. caught by Joe Marshall on Therapy from SSYC.
After calculating the points of the top five boats from each club, the winner of the traveling trophy for 2014 was South Milwaukee Yacht Club with a Total of 711.25 points to South Shore Yacht Clubs 472.25 points. Congratulations to SMYC on their win. We look forward to 2015.
