The ‘season’ is winding down but that doesn’t mean a shortage of activities at your Club. GM Pat Nora has organized a Rum and Cigar Tasting on August 28th. The Second Annual Golf Outing is set for September 7th and Entertainment Chairman Tom Gale is presenting a Country Western Night Saturday, September 13th.
There are also still plenty of power boat and sailing events in the weeks ahead. Badgers and Packers football parties are just days away, watch for specials at the Lakeside Lounge on game days, Wings Monday, Taco Tuesday are still packing ‘em in. One change to note however, because of low participation, the Sunday morning breakfast has been replaced by Sunday morning Breakfast Burritos & Bloody Marys at the Lakeshore Lounge and is proving to very popular.
Life member Carl Hankwitz shared a link with us, “37 Great Lakes Facts”, www.buzzfeed.com/andrewziegler/great-lakes-facts-that-will-blow-your-mind. Here’s # 28. Within Lake Michigan there is a “triangle” with a similar reputation to the Bermuda Triangle, where a large amount of “strange disappearances” have occurred. There have also been alleged UFO sightings.
Help Wanted. For years SSYC has been providing Safety Boats for the Milwaukee Rowing Club’s Milwaukee River Challenge. Nearly a dozen college and high school teams from the Midwest compete. As a thank you the MRC makes a generous donation to the SSYC Junior Foundation. The event is Saturday, September 20th and several more volunteers and boats (16’ – 24’ powerboats) are needed. Contact Bruce Nason, if you’d like to get involved.
The 2014 Corn Roast was a huge success thanks to a lot of work by the SSYC staff and many member volunteers. I’d like to give a little attention to one of the volunteers that has ‘manned’ the condiments stand for many years, LS Lucele Peterson. When asked how long she’s been behind the Corn Roast bottles of ketchup, mustard and relish she laughed and said “seems like since I was a teenager”. FYI, Lucele’s membership date is 1957.
Life Member Frank Burany celebrated his 99 birthday last week with a BBQ cook-out at the 3 Pillars Senior Senior Living Community in Dousman. Son Dick said a large crowd was on hand wishing Frank well, as do we.
