graubner george 2014Power Boaters summer fun is in full swing at South Shore Yacht Club.

The SSYC/LMYA OPEN HOUSE for 2014 was a huge success and I want to express my sincere appreciation to all of those that helped.   SSYC July 3rd Picnic was a great success, the turnout was better than expected and we met last year’s figures.  Our grillers helped grill steaks for sandwiches, and the sides included potato salad, potato chips, wall beer and soft drinks …  we served quite a few hungry boaters.  Some even decided to bring and grill their own!   The Picnic is becoming a tradition to the start of the fireworks evening. There’s plenty of time for socializing and then boarding the boats to view the fireworks in the inner harbor.  You may want to think about including this on your agenda for next year!

There is no better way to start a morning than to include the “Ham Scrambler Breakfast”.  We were serving egg ham scramblers, a variety of juices, and English muffins for price of only $7.50.     Our “Trash to Treasure” flea market certainly had a crowd looking for bargains which made our sellers pretty happy.  Of course, there was plenty of boating items, but there was jewelry, and even a tv!  Start putting your “stuff” away for next year and think about making some money on them.   Our auction with donations from our generous sponsors helped raise over $1,500, for Big Brothers Big Sisters Day at South Shore. Some of the items for auction were a signed Green Bay Packer football, Winter Boat Storage at Horny Goat, Milwaukee County Parks Golf Package,  Milwaukee County Zoo Pass, Racine Reefpoint Dockage, and other Various Gift Cards to Area Restaurants, and Gift Cards for Area Rugs or Carpet (Could could be used for boat carpeting too) and of course, many other items.   The raffle brought in revenue which will also benefit the Big Brother’s Big Sister’s program.   Our Junior Foundation Raffle winners were: Dick Grabowski (Charcoal/Gas/Smoker Grill), Jeremy Burns,( 32”  Color TV), F. Locke,  (basket of Select Wines), and Suzy Thomas (basket of Liquor)… Congratulations!

Our own Chef Sam and his group did an outstanding job for our Under the Tent Steak Dinner.  Thanks to Chef Sam and his crew for making it wonderful; the “Retro” music during dinner was a nice addition this year. Thank goodness Vince kept a copy of those tunes!   After Dinner there was dancing to the sounds of  ”Off The Record” which was enjoyed by all.   Thankfully our weather cooperated and it was a wonderful evening on the waterfront.

Mark your calendar for our upcoming Power Boater events:  New This Year, is a Wednesday Event , hosted by Graubner’s & Artka’s, which is a Concert Cruise to  Discovery World  on July 16th;  July 31st our Power Boater’s Thursday TBA, hosted by Berg’s and Wagner’s ; August 7th , Thursday is our traditional Brown Bag hosted by Bluemner’s, Grabowski’s & Merryfield’s .  Another New Event is planned for August 21st, Movie under the Tent,  hosted by Amich’s, Artka’s, and Verhasselt’s.   I’m still working on the dingy cruise up the Milwaukee River in August/September and will announce our plans for this event soon.  If you’d like to help organize this dingy cruise, let me know.  We’re looking for ideas for a fun filled day on the water.

The SSYC Grill Team will be helping in the upcoming events: Fish On /Fish Off July 26th, SSYC Corn Roast August 9th, and August 23rd we have the Big Brothers/Big Sisters cruise and lunch.  Doug Reading is already working on this event.  Please, contact Doug if you can volunteer your vessel for this event, 414-397-9070.

I plan on scheduling a Power Boater’s meeting to discuss and review the SSYC/LYMA Open House and work on the planning of the upcoming events.   Keep your eyes open and check the club calendar or your emails for our notices!   We are always looking for volunteers to help and if you have any new items for the Power Boater’s please call or email me.  (414-791-8439 or .)   Again, thanks for all your help, we couldn’t do it without YOU!
