SSYC aerial photo 1200x372

By Bruce Nason PC

OK, now that we’re 101 years old, I’d like to give one more heartfelt “thank you” to the volunteers and SSYC staff who made all of our 2013 anniversary celebrations a success. Speaking of success, after a few speed bumps which I apologize for, the 100th anniversary commemorative book “Moving Forward by Looking Back” is now available. There are enough copies printed so that every class of Club membership can have a copy (ie. member and spouse who is a member of the Auxiliary receive two copies). There is, of course, no charge. Pick up your copy(s) at the Club Office or track me down at the Club.

The cost of the book, bronze plaque and celebrations were paid for with funds from the sale of Commemorative Photo Mural Tiles, raffle tickets and the sale of 100th anniversary clothing. Thanks also to all who participated in those fund raising efforts.

And with regard to the anniversary clothing, there are some items still available and they’re sale priced. Check with GM Pat Nora or the Club Office.

Sailing and Racing

SailboatsIf you are interested in sailing, and more specifically racing, there are ample opportunities to join one of our racing fleets, or to crew on one of the boats in those fleets.  The women's fleet races on Mondays, small boats race on Tuesdays.  Big boats race on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  And the double handed fleet races on Fridays.

You can learn more about the various racing fleets by clicking here.  And the racing schedule (for all fleets) is available here.

PowerboatOur power boaters are active fishermen.  An annual fishing contest is held in July.

In addition, our power boaters host a number of events, usually on Thursdays as well as many weekends.

KaszubeCupSSYC offers sailing lessons and a year-round program for children ages 8 - 18.  We offer a six-week series of lessons in Opti's, 420's and Lasers.  Our juniors attend a number of regattas throughout the summer, and host one of thelargest regattas on Lake Michigan, the Kaszube Cup.

Click here to learn more about the Junior program, and here to find out more about the Kaszube Cup regatta.
