It was nice to see everyone working on their boats the past few weeks. I am hopeful that our members can be ready before the last day of launch. I only wish that Mother Nature would cooperate by giving us some warm weather.
On April 29th, Milwaukee County officials held its first stakeholder meeting looking for input on the redesigning of South Shore Park. The meeting was held at the South Shore Park pavilion. It was attended by various stakeholders such as the Wisconsin DNR, Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewage District, Bay View Park Watch and other department heads from Milwaukee County Parks System. As the meetings continue during the summer, more stakeholders and residents will be invited to express their opinions on the project. To date boring samples in the parking lot have been scheduled to take place this month.
The first phase of this project includes getting input from stakeholders and eventually coming up with a new design plan for the entire South Shore Park area. Phase one is scheduled to be completed by 2015.
Every year the Nominating Committee seeks out members who would like to run for a board position. If you are one of our members who would like to get more involved with the club, please consider volunteering for these positions. All you have to do is write a letter of interest which includes your qualifications and address it to Past Commodore Dave Wehnes.
The last day of launch is scheduled for May 23rd followed by the grounds clean-up on May 24th. These two events signal the start of our boating season. Soon the tent will be erected and the sailing races will begin. I want to thank everyone who has volunteered their time to prepare our club for the upcoming summer season. Please check the SSYC calendar for all the events scheduled during the summer. Let's have a fun and safe boating season this year.
As we look at this past winter, it certainly has been the longest winter I have seen in a long time. We are surely due for some fantastic weather this summer.
