graubner george 2014Thursday Night Power Boaters Events have started with the kick off of Spaghetti Night, which was very well attended with over 55 participants.  It was good to see so many new members come to enjoy the evening and get to know other club members.  There was a nautical word game, good spaghetti and plenty of desserts for all!   In the upcoming weeks, mark your calendars and come enjoy the chili dump/ flare shoot, May 29th.  And, we added another event on June 5th… Caribbean night, featuring rum drinks, and Caribbean food.  Watch for further information in your email.

A special thanks to the grill team (Scott Burke, Scott Lawrie, Gary Johnson)  for  stepping up on Sunday  to serve brats to over 45 new prospective members at the SSYC Open House.  We are lining up the grill team for the upcoming events: Review of the fleet/Pig Roast (June 7th), the SSYC/LMYA Open House (July 5-6), the Fish on/Fish off (July 26), Corn Roast (August 9), and Big Brothers/Big Sisters  (August 23).   We need our SSYC Red Apron Grill Team members to volunteer in helping with these events, so give me a call to sign up.

And, to update you on the SSYC/LMYA Open House… invitation letters were sent out to LMYA members and yacht clubs via mail and these same letters will be emailed to SSYC members this week.  Watch for your letter, as it will contain a list of various activities and events taking place.  The SSYC/LMYA open house is the the first weekend in July… July 3 thru 6th.  July 3 will be a Grill out Picnic and there will be plenty of time to get to the fireworks.  There will be Power Boater meeting June 2nd at 7pm to work on the SSYC/LYMA details.

Upcoming Power boater’s events:
May 29th - Chili dump flare shoot
June 5th - Caribbean Night  w/ music
June 22nd - We will reschedule to another date due to conflicts with air

Watch for August events (upcoming) to add to your Calendar.   You can always check out the SSYC Calendar of events at ssyc.org, which includes all functions of the Yacht Club.

As always I welcome new ideas and events, let me know by emailing me at or call (414-791-8439).  We’ll always try our best to schedule events so long as they don’t conflict with other club functions.

Sailing and Racing

SailboatsIf you are interested in sailing, and more specifically racing, there are ample opportunities to join one of our racing fleets, or to crew on one of the boats in those fleets.  The women's fleet races on Mondays, small boats race on Tuesdays.  Big boats race on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  And the double handed fleet races on Fridays.

You can learn more about the various racing fleets by clicking here.  And the racing schedule (for all fleets) is available here.

PowerboatOur power boaters are active fishermen.  An annual fishing contest is held in July.

In addition, our power boaters host a number of events, usually on Thursdays as well as many weekends.
