Radomski Luke 2014The Grounds Committee is on track to have many of its required Clean Marina steps completed very soon.  We have obtained a copy of Milwaukee County’s storm water permit that is issued by the DNR.  Stacy Trisco has volunteered to complete a map of our storm water runoff.  Obviously, this would be difficult to complete any winter, particularly this one and she deserves a special acknowledgment for taking on this task this season.   I would also like to thank Jim Peterson for agreeing to install the rain barrels that are a requirement for Clean Marina certification when spring arrives (August or so….).

Milwaukee County is anticipating beginning the study and design phase of the storm water abatement plan for SSYC Grounds/Western Parking lot/Public Boat launch parking area very shortly. If you would like to peruse a copy of a similar study/design that was conducted last year for Mckinley, click here.

As many of you are aware, many of the dock carts have reached their life expectancy and have been in need of replacement.  Over the years we have attempted to replace them with a multitude of designs some good, some not so good.  While diversity in cart design can be appreciated the need to formally replace the carts with a singular cart that best meets the needs of all members and boaters.  It is understood that cart use varies from member to member so a compromise must be found.  A deadline of 3/1/14 has been set for the new design to be chosen.  Any specific recommendations of a cart or design can be emailed to me at

As we all know this has been a particularly harsh winter and the snow removal operations have been excellent.  I would continue to urge caution when walking in the parking lot or on Club grounds.

SailboatsIf you are interested in sailing, and more specifically racing, there are ample opportunities to join one of our racing fleets, or to crew on one of the boats in those fleets.  The women's fleet races on Mondays, small boats race on Tuesdays.  Big boats race on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  And the double handed fleet races on Fridays.

You can learn more about the various racing fleets by clicking here.  And the racing schedule (for all fleets) is available here.

PowerboatOur power boaters are active fishermen.  An annual fishing contest is held in July.

In addition, our power boaters host a number of events, usually on Thursdays as well as many weekends.
