Artka George 2014As we say goodbye to 2013, I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday celebration. Our club will continue to be very busy with the upcoming New Year’s Eve Celebration and into 2014. Please check your emails and Club calendar for upcoming events during the winter.

PC-plaqueThere are many reasons why our club is so special. One of the main reasons is that our members volunteer their time to help keep our club running throughout the year. At the last general membership meeting I had the pleasure of recognizing such members as their term on the Board of Directors ended.  I would like to thank PC Bob Aring, PC Bruce Nason, and Director Russ Berg for their dedicated service to the South Shore Yacht Club.  I would also like to thank PC Dave Wehnes for his service as Commodore for the last two years. Dave will be continuing on the board as our Corresponding Secretary.

The December general membership meeting was held on (December 19th). At that time, the 2014 budget was presented by Rick Schoos our new Financial Secretary. The budget includes a no increase budget which was due to the fact that we have added almost 100 new members in 2013. Money was budgeted to include the purchase of new side panels for the tent, applying for dredging permits, researching a design for lowering finger piers and concrete inspection for our parking lot.

I would like to thank Jim Mergener, Commodore of the Lake Michigan Yachting Association for the award recognizing South Shore Yacht Clubs 100th anniversary and our dedication to the LMYA.

I need to remind all of our members to make sure you check your monthly statements and stay current with your responsibility in club payments. It is important that members stay in good standing with the club. As Financial Secretary Rick Schoos and Slip Director Mel Fabiszak stated at the general membership meeting, you must be in good standing in order to apply for a slip or a slip change.

One question that was brought up during the general membership meeting was when is the slip application due? And when is the payment due? The answer is slip applications are due on January 15, 2014. Payment for the slip can be sent in with the application. Otherwise, the deadline for slip payment is no later than February 21, 2014.

As winter continues the club will be open for business. If you were lucky enough to get reservations for New Year's Eve, I will see you there. If you have other dinner plans, please come join us after for some great music and fun as we ring in the New Year.

You can learn more about the various racing fleets by clicking here.  And the racing schedule (for all fleets) is available here.

PowerboatOur power boaters are active fishermen.  An annual fishing contest is held in July.

In addition, our power boaters host a number of events, usually on Thursdays as well as many weekends.
