It looks fantastic and a big thank you to the SSYC Auxiliary for the donation of the South garden retaining wall. As you may know a couple of years ago the Auxiliary donated the funds to replace the North lannon stone wall with a great looking block wall. This past summer they informed the Board that they would fund the replacement of the South wall so that they would match. Work was just completed this week and it looks great!
We continue on course to full (550) membership. At last week’s Board meeting we welcomed in seven new Active members bringing our total to 527. We also have about a half dozen more set for acceptance in October, which will bring us to less than 20 short of the 550 mark and if you’re reading this before September 30th there’s still time to sign-up a new member at the reduced Initiation Fee of $425.
The Kohl’s Department Store men’s wear fall catalog just arrived in the mail so now an embargo is lifted and we can show a couple of photographs. If you look closely at a couple of the photos in the catalog, you may be able to recognize that they were taken at SSYC. On June 11th the Club grounds were invaded by an army of Kohl’s advertising staff and models and a 1957 corvette for the day.
Another example of community involvement and support of a water based organization happened September 21st. For more years that I can account for SSYC volunteers staffed Safety Boats for the Milwaukee River Challenge which is annually staged by the Milwaukee Rowing Club. It was a cold and blustery Saturday but Paul Dondero, Jerry Kedziora, Ken Bourgeois, Ken Dziubek, Bill Mosher, Bob Aring, Pat Kuptz, Bruce Nason and MYC’s John Strassman spent nearly eight hours making sure the 750 athletes and 153 boats had a safe race course.
