The Ninth Annual Fish On Fish Off fishing contest between South Shore Yacht Club and South Milwaukee Yacht was held on July 28, 2013. Because of the sea conditions the fishing contest was cancelled for Saturday July 27. This year we had 23 boats registered for the contest. South Shore Yacht Club had a total of 12 boats entered and South Milwaukee Yacht Club came in with 11 boats. I would like to thank everyone who participated in our annual event. If it was not for all of the volunteers from both of our clubs who donated their time this event could not be run.
Strong winds from the day before made for tough fishing conditions for the contest. All of the boats left the dock at 4:30 am. and they returned by 12 pm. for the weigh in. According to the Captains the fishing was very slow.
After weighing the fish and enjoying a fantastic lunch the final results were calculated.
1st Place- Captain Kevin Cluley on Next Generation from SSYC with 193.0 points.
2nd Place- Captain Mike Gengler on Knot too Shabby from SMYC with 172.9 points.
3rd Place- Captain Steve Zajc on Farcast II from SSYC with 171.5 points.
4th Place- Captain George Artka on Freedom 3 from SSYC with 126.9 points.
The biggest fish of the contest was a 23.1 lbs. Chinook salmon caught by Rick Klamrowski on Klam’s Chowder from South Milwaukee Yacht Club.
The biggest Lake Trout was 9.5 lbs. caught by Wayne Gestwicki on Stryker from SMYC. The biggest Rainbow Trout was 13.2 lbs. caught by Steve Zajc on Farcast II from SSYC. The biggest Coho Salmon was 7.6 lbs. caught Steve Zajc on Farcast II from SSYC. The biggest Chinook other than the big fish was 20.1 lbs. There were two boats who caught the same size fish. They were caught by Mike Gengler on Knot too Sahbby from SMYC and Kevin Cluley on Next Generation from SSYC.
There was a total of 633.7 lbs. of fish caught during the event.
After calculating the points of the top five boats from each club, the winner of the traveling trophy for 2013 is South Shore Yacht Club with a Total of 659.8 points to South Milwaukee Yacht Clubs 489.6 points.
Again I would like to thank all of the volunteers from SSYC and SMYC that help make this event successful.
