We continue to grow! Twelve new members welcomed in at the July Board of Directors meeting brought our Active Member total to a couple short of 500. The number of applicants on the August list will put us well on our way to once again being at full membership and perhaps a waiting list. At the Special Membership Meeting on Tuesday evening July 23 an extension to the reduced Initiation Fee was overwhelmingly approved. The $425 Initiation Fee is now in place until September 30, 2013 or until full membership (550) is achieved, whichever is sooner. This is the time to get your crew on board with a SSYC membership.
We host many ‘community’ events through-out the year and one of these is the Ulster Project. On July 22 five SSYC skippers treated 24 teenagers and their hosts to an evening sailboat adventure and cook-out. It’s been a SSYC annual tradition for more than a dozen years. The Ulster Project brings teens (Protestant and Catholic) from Northern Ireland to the US for a month of workshops and social events to promote future generations of peace and understanding.
Are you missing a great set of boat cushions for the ‘cocktail seats’ (the seats on the stern pulpit) probably from a Catalina or Hunter sailboat? The cushions and a notebook with Queen’s Cup info were turned into the Club Office.
Two great SSYC events are coming up in August. Argh…matey….the second annual Pirate Palooza is happening Saturday, August 3 and the Annual Corn Roast is set for Saturday, August 10. Don’t miss either of them details are on-line on the Club calendar.
