GaleTomOkay, so when I wrote this article on Friday, I was volunteering at the Sailing Center to help put in their piers to get ready for summer.  By the time we finished at 1:30 we had worked through 35 MPH winds, three snow, two hail storms and wind chills at 15 degrees.  This IS the spring edition of the Compass isn't it?  Well no matter, summer parties at SSYC have already started and in the last two weeks we've had some "Sizzling Hot" parties here at the Club.

On Saturday April 13th we had what will likely be the club's first annual "DISCO Party".  It was held right after the Power Boaters spectacular wine tasting. (Which by the way, was the best one I've ever attended.)  SSYC's lower lounge was converted to a real "Whiskey A Go-Go" complete with Disco mix master SSYC's Jeff Krueger who kept the party going with a non-stop disco beat.  Also a special thanks to event chairs Lynn and Vince Verhasselt, and Sam and George Graubner.  By the way, the Club now owns a genuine "Disco mirror Ball".  So, if any organization would like to use it for their party here at the Club (tent included), feel free to contact Manager Pat Nora.

Last Saturday night we had another of the Club's very popular Mexican Buffetts.  While everything was fantastic, my favorite was the shrimp gazpacho soup.  If you missed it, you really MISSED IT!  Following the buffet, was another Klub Karaoke.  Every time we do this I'm always impressed with the talent here at SSYC.  Once again, my musical co-host Bridget Lenz honored us with some new tunes.  Remember, everyone's a star at SSYC's Klub Karaoke!

Too shy to get up in front of everyone? Here's little tip on how to learn a song.  Just Google "Youtube Karaoke" with the song you'd like to sing.  Up will pop several versions of the song with lyrics and sometimes accompanied by the original artists.  After singing the song 5 or 6 times with the original artist's "Helper voice", you'll be ready to sing at the Club!  See you again in May!

Our next scheduled Club party is Saturday May 4th for the Kentucky Derby.  Doug Gallus is chairing this event and promises a special Derby Day with horse race games, a "Fancy" Ladies Hat contest, and prizes for winners. Needles to say, the mint juleps will be flowing! More details to follow.

Don't forget about the party that was 100 years in the making, our Centennial party on Saturday May 18th.  For this special event we've booked the very popular band "The Crocs".  Heavy hors d'oeuvres, wine, and the event will be modestly priced.  Look for exact details in the next two weeks. Hint, it's going to be very similar to the Wine Tasting party, just ask anyone who was there.  It was FANTASTIC!

Like to dance?  Here are just a few of the upcoming events at SSYC and the Bands we've hired:

May 18th   (Saturday) Centennial Party                               "The Crocs"

June 8th    (Saturday) Review of The Fleet & Pig Roast      "Du Page Band"

June 2th    (Thursday) Queens Cup Party                            "Our House"

August 3rd (Saturday) Pirate Palooza                                   "Tiki Tim"

August 10th (Saturday) Corn Roast                                       "Hat Trick"

Of course other organizations will be having summer parties at the Club as well.  Look for the Power Boaters Schedule as well as future "Klub Karaoke" parties.

The next meeting of the Entertainment Committee with be Wednesday April 24th at 7pm.  Final planning for the Centennial party will be discussed at that evening.  New committee members are welcome.

You can learn more about the various racing fleets by clicking here.  And the racing schedule (for all fleets) is available here.

PowerboatOur power boaters are active fishermen.  An annual fishing contest is held in July.

In addition, our power boaters host a number of events, usually on Thursdays as well as many weekends.
