Wisconsin's official flagship, the S/V Denis Sullivan will be undergoing major mast replacement prior to the 2013 sailing season and conducting a fund drive to raise funds for the project. Here is a portion of the notice sent to SSYC: "This spring, the S/V Denis Sullivan needs $12,000 to raise a new main mast. A few weeks ago, we launched a fundraising campaign with great initial success, but there is still work to be done...Thanks to the some generous support of loyal donors are matching each donation dollar for dollar until we reach or surpass our goal." A handmade bench is being crafted from the old mast which will be given as a thank-you gift and memento to the largest donor. Additionally, beautiful prints of the Denis Sullivan will be given away in a random drawing of our donors. Donation are tax deductable, the schooner's web address is www.schoonerdenissullivan.org.

Membership is on the move, in the right direction, and one of our newest prospective members has a unique family connection with SSYC. Michael Schoendorf has just applied for Club membership, the reason that name may sound familiar is that Michael's father and uncle are past SSYC Commodores, Tom Schoendorf in 1967 and Joe Schoendorf in 1953/54. Welcome aboard Michael.

Members of the Board of Directors got to sign their names to the back of Commemorative bronze plaque that will be installed near the front entrance this Spring. The plaque will be our permanent marker proclaiming our heritage in Milwaukee. The cost of the plaque is one of the items underwritten by the fundraising efforts of your 100th Anniversary Committee.

Even though the grounds and boats are still covered with snow and ice we're all getting the urge to start pre-commissioning chores. It's time to be extra careful when working around your boat. Make this an accident free Spring. Also think about security as well, watch for anyone wondering around the boats who may not be a member, don't be afraid to approach a person(s) who don't appear to be members.
