The holidays are behind us and football is over, now what?

Come on down and check out the South Shore Yacht Club Auxiliary. We would like to invite all SSYC members or spouses of members to come join us as our guest (you are under no obligation to join but once you see us in action, you will want to). We are an outstanding collection of women. This is a great way to get to know your fellow club members – next time you come down to the club you will have even more people to socialize with and hey “ who doesn’t need more friends”. We raise money for special projects for the club, donate monies to charities, have informative programs and awesome entertainment. We have a new entertainment committee that is eager to show their stuff. Come on down and hear what is going on. We meet the first Tuesday of the month.

Aux Feb2013mtgOur next meeting is a Tropical themed meeting on Tuesday Feb. 5th at 7 PM. feel free to come in your island attire (Hawaiian shirts, leis, flip-flops, etc.) A short business meeting will be followed by entertainment. At this meeting, that would be Tropical Bingo. Bring a White Elephant (or two) for bingo prizes. Stay for the fun. Hear what we have in store for the rest of the year.

By the way, the history of the SSYC Auxiliary has been updated through 2012 and is now posted on the SSYC website under the Auxiliary section. Check it out - it is amazing the amount of service and evolution we have experienced in our organization.

As always (especially in Feb), watch the weather. If you think the meeting is going to be cancelled due to the weather call the club.

Our new board for 2013 is as follows:

  • Sharon Gale – President
  • Sue Manske – Vice President.
  • Sheila Depies-Guertin – Recording Secretary
  • Sandy Dziubek – Corresponding Secretary
  • Christine Martin – Treasurer
  • Fran Aring – Financial Secretary
  • Jodi Emery – Auditor
  • 3rd Year Board Members – Bonnie Merryfield & Pat Rakowski
  • 2nd Year Board Members – Tove Case & Peggy Eilers
  • 1st Year Board Members – Jan Marie Weiler & Carolyn Blackwood

Sailing and Racing

SailboatsIf you are interested in sailing, and more specifically racing, there are ample opportunities to join one of our racing fleets, or to crew on one of the boats in those fleets.  The women's fleet races on Mondays, small boats race on Tuesdays.  Big boats race on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  And the double handed fleet races on Fridays.

You can learn more about the various racing fleets by clicking here.  And the racing schedule (for all fleets) is available here.

PowerboatOur power boaters are active fishermen.  An annual fishing contest is held in July.

In addition, our power boaters host a number of events, usually on Thursdays as well as many weekends.

KaszubeCupSSYC offers sailing lessons and a year-round program for children ages 8 - 18.  We offer a six-week series of lessons in Opti's, 420's and Lasers.  Our juniors attend a number of regattas throughout the summer, and host one of thelargest regattas on Lake Michigan, the Kaszube Cup.

Click here to learn more about the Junior program, and here to find out more about the Kaszube Cup regatta.
