Did you attend the New Year’s Eve party?  If you did, I know that you had a great time.  The food was absolutely fantastic!  And the dance floor was crowded all night.

Looking forward, we have a very full calendar of events.  Check the website calendar over the next several weeks as all of the Powerboat, Entertainment and Sail Race Events will be added.  I think you’ll see that the club offers something for everyone, and that there are very few open weekends. It may be too cold to go boating here in Wisconsin, but there are many ways to enjoy the camaraderie of SSYC.

When you read this, we will have concluded the slip change process.  Hopefully we will be able to accommodate everyone.  We may still need a few volunteers willing to move to a different slip to allow all of the deep-draft boats to remain at SSYC.  Water depth will be a concern in 2013 and we have meetings setup with Milwaukee County and the US Army Corps of Engineers as we work toward possible solutions.

The club continues to struggle a bit when it comes to recruiting new members.  If you know anyone who might be interested in joining, please bring them to one of our events, or just to lunch or dinner, and introduce them to SSYC.  We’re offering reduced initiation fees for the first seven months of the year.  Let’s see how many people we can find to take advantage of the offer.

As always, I am honored to serve as your Commodore.

Sailing and Racing

SailboatsIf you are interested in sailing, and more specifically racing, there are ample opportunities to join one of our racing fleets, or to crew on one of the boats in those fleets.  The women's fleet races on Mondays, small boats race on Tuesdays.  Big boats race on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  And the double handed fleet races on Fridays.

You can learn more about the various racing fleets by clicking here.  And the racing schedule (for all fleets) is available here.

PowerboatOur power boaters are active fishermen.  An annual fishing contest is held in July.

In addition, our power boaters host a number of events, usually on Thursdays as well as many weekends.
